What's happening to me?!

A crazy thing happened on my 30th birthday - I had my first unexplained pain. I'm serious. It was amazing. Like my body was trying to tell me "You're OFFICIALLY not a kid anymore." I know I'm not old...far from it. And, generally, I'm in good health and feel pretty good. But, after 30+ years of use even the most efficient  machine is going to show some wear and tear. It will need some special maintenance and extra love. Geez, I sound like a used car.

Matt and I were discussing this the other night. He turned to me as we were watching television and said, "have you noticed it's harder to get comfortable?" Yes, I have. Those positions that used to bring me such lazy joy now seem like they are designed to kill me. My favorite sleep position, for example, used to be laying on my tummy with my hands under the pillow. Today, my arms go to sleep and I wake up with pins and needles. Not to mention a "crick" in my neck. lol

Oh, the "crick." Can someone explain to me how the hell you can get hurt from doing nothing?

As I sit on the brink of a big birthday (35), I know these things are just going to get worse. And it makes me a little sad that Isabel will never know me as a bouncy 19 year old. Let's just say a big "Thanks" to the person who invented Ibuprofen. The good news is that, along with my random aches and pains, I have menopause to look forward to.

"Smile! It increases your face value!"

I'm usually in a pretty good mood. * I'm usually quick to smile; quick to laugh. I like to say "hi" to people on the street. I like to hug good friends. I like to kiss my husband. I like to keep it light and try not take it all so seriously. It's a conscious decision, albeit not always an easy one. Most days, though, I'm pretty good at NOT giving into the bullshit. Recently, in my Kickboxing class, (my new passion!!) I was paired with a 20-something girl for the partner drills. I greeted her with a smile. Nothing. I cracked a lame joke about how we should try to NOT punch each other in the face. *crickets* (Does she not realize I'm a delight?!) Then we started our exercises; me with a mid-level intensity and steady beat to the Flo Rida song booming over the sound system; her with an intense fervor like she was training for her next MMA fight. Now, I kept up. (Awwwww yeeeeahhhhh!) But I was (at first) more than a little annoyed. I wanted to say, "Y...

5 Things I've learned so far...

1. Our baby has fingerprints already. I'm not sure why but this freaks me out. 2. Pregnancy heartburn is NO JOKE. Before this, I think I'd had heartburn twice in my life. I'm Mexican for Christ's sake! We love our spicy food. I guess I have to go easy for the next few months. Boo. 3. I can't watch "A Baby Story" without being reduced to a sobbing mess. But I find myself turning the channel for the delivery part. 4. The placenta & baby (aka alien) are about the size of an avocado right now. 5. Our baby will have duel citizenship. Cool, huh?

Whole30 - Day 2

I popped out of bed today with a meal plan in place and feeling pretty proud for completing yesterday. Bring on Day 2! Day 2 How the book says I'll feel : "The Hangover." I was to expect headaches, fogginess and general blah-ness. How I actually feel : Pretty good considering how I (well, we) felt when we went to bed last night. I was expecting to be pained and dumb today. No pain. No dumb. Breakfast was good. (And lovingly prepared by the Hubs) I wasn't actually very hungry but finished it like a good girl knowing that I would be famished soon if I didn't. My headache is gone and I went to bed without heartburn for the first time in about a week. #winning I am sad to report, however, that coffee sans cream is still grody. The Hubs also prepared a delicious protein salad for lunch. I licked my plate clean. I was feeling pretty hungry right before. (ate a few almonds) But the salad was great and very satisfying. Still had to pick up a few things at the ...
